Concepts and analysis provided in the Shaffer Market Report benefit individual investors, traders and other financial professionals managing money who desire to see inside the global stock, bond, commodity and currency markets to help in their decision making process.

Unique to the Shaffer Market Report is our graphic illustration of the weekly changes of one of the most accurate tabulations of positioning of the three types of traders as reported in the Commitment of Traders Report (COT) published weekly by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). The CFTC releases the COT report every Friday (or Monday if Friday is a US holiday) and includes positions as of Tuesday’s close. Positioning of traders can be a very important tool to determine potential future direction of prices.

The positioning of the three types of traders has to be accurate because all positions in the Futures markets are accounted for on a daily basis by each exchange. The Futures markets are a zero sum game, in other words for every buy or long position there is a sell or short position. Each week we update our interpretations of the positioning of traders in numerous Futures markets including stock indexes, bonds, commodities and currencies with other market indexes and indicators.

We don’t advocate any particular type of trading or investment process, that’s a personal decision, but the Futures markets can be a very helpful tool as to making decisions with other investments such as individual stocks, bonds, Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) or Exchange Traded Notes (ETNs) amongst many other investment vehicles.

The Shaffer Market Report also includes analysis based on price and time cycle movements using chart patterns. Price levels and time frames are helpful to determine if a particular market is trending or non-trending. The Shaffer Market Report helps evaluate whether or not a particular market or indicator is in a trend either short-term or long-term, or if a particular market or indicator may be reaching reversal levels, or if a current trend has the potential to continue.
